Introduction to AutoCAD (Computer Aided Drafting)

Description

Introduction to AutoCAD is designed for, but not limited to, people working in the Building industry. It is for anyone that wishes to learn more about and gain knowledge and skills in CAD. People with a diverse range of jobs, and from all walks of life, could benefit from this course.

This short course is an introduction to the most frequently used tools and functions of the AutoCAD software. It does not cover highly specialised design drawings (e.g. roof truss or integrated circuit).

Topics Covered:
- Identify the basic layout and features of the AutoCAD interface
- Starting new drawings
- Opening and saving drawings
- Working with commands and the cartesian workspace
- Organising the drawing with layers
- Drawing precision in AutoCAD (object snaps)
- Basic drawing and editing tools
- Working with blocks (creating and inserting)
- Setting up a layout
- Adding text and dimensions
- Adding hatching
- Printing sheets

For Virtual Classroom delivery (if offered) - the sessions will be recorded for students to watch at a convenient time if you cannot make the live sessions. It is also advisable that you have a minimum of two screens or access to a second computer where you will be able to watch the live lecture on and another with the AutoCAD software open so that you can work on activities set in the virtual classroom. For On Campus delivery - computers are provided for students but you are welcome to bring your own laptop. Please bring a pen/pencil, notebook, headphones and a portable storage device (e.g. USB drive).

CITB INFORMATION
This course is eligible for CITB funding. The CITB is a whole-of-industry led organisation that provides support to attract, train and retain South Australian building and construction workers by providing leadership in training and skills development.

Each financial year, Eligible Persons with an approved CITB number can obtain up to $3,000 of training subsidies off any CITB endorsed short course, with a CITB endorsed training provider.

Upon receipt of enrolment, students will be sent an email with further instructions on claiming the CITB rebate. You do not need to provide your CITB number at the time of enrolment.

At the successful completion of a CITB eligible course, eligible CITB students will be refunded with the CITB subsidy. The subsidy will be paid to whoever paid for the course. TAFE SA cannot claim your refund (and therefore cannot reimburse you the funded amount) prior to the finish date. All CITB refunds will be credited against the student or third-party account and cannot be refunded back to credit cards.

Rebate refunds will be processed within 60 days of course completion (this timeframe is to allow for assessment submission, marking and processing).

The CITB number you provide to TAFE SA must belong to the individual participant – you cannot use the CITB number of another person or company.

  • - Very good reading, writing and numeracy skills (mandatory)
    - Good computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment (mandatory)
    - AutoCAD for Windows not AutoCAD for Macintosh (mandatory)
    - Basic knowledge of residential construction (desirable)
  • You will need a computer that can run AutoCAD for Windows. For information on the type of computer you will require search for “AutoCAD System Requirements”. Here’s a link to the AutoCAD 2021 system requirements (copy and paste into search bar):

    Once you have enrolled, you will receive an email explaining how to download and install the software on your computer at no cost.

    There will also be a requirement that you send evidence of your activities for your lecturer to check that you have gained the required knowledge for the topics outlined above.

    It is also advisable that you are equipped with headphones and microphone. Webcam is optional. We strongly advise you have a good backup system in place to avoid losing your files and that can include, cloud storage, external hard disks as well as local storage to your computer.

Short Course Delivery Locations Some short courses can provide accreditation for industry-specific registration, while others merely provide skills and knowledge in the subject area. Concession prices are available for some courses.
